SANE Training & Education

SANE-A Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for SANE education and training, you must be an RN or APRN with at least one year of clinical practice. Education and training consists of:

40-hour Didactic Course

The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) offers a 40-hour online SANE training course. The course is self-paced as long as it is completed within 12 weeks of initial login.

Clinical Skills Practice

Upon completion of the didactic portion, a 2-day clinical skills lab will be scheduled. On day 1, new trainees will observe a mock exam performed by an experienced SANE on a gynecological training assistant (GTA). On day 2, new trainees will perform a forensic exam under the supervision of an experienced SANE.

Shadowing Opportunities

New trainees will have the opportunity to shadow experienced SANEs prior to conducting exams independently.

Branch House SANE Program

Branch House SANEs work as independent contractors on an on-call basis. Schedules are highly flexible and designed to work with existing full-time or part-time employement. We only ask that you are able to take call a minimum of 2-3 days per month.

Our SANEs are paid an hourly wage while on-call and receive a exam fee payment for each sexual assault exam performed.
